Season eight of Fortnite Chapter Two begins tomorrow, but Epic Games had its own farewell party today as part of Operation: Sky Fire, an in-game event. The mini-mission took gamers deep inside the Mothership, but it left them with many more questions than answers. Slone’s preparations to “end the Invasion once and for all” throughout Season 7 culminated in this event.
When the event began, the Mothership kidnapped participants and imprisoned them in little cells. Players were given a backpack with a visor that exhibited a holographic alien emblem and counted up from zero seconds to one minute. To continue the teaser, the doors opened and groups of players had to traverse the ship.
When the event began, the Mothership abducted participants and imprisoned them in little cells. Players were given a backpack with a visor that exhibited a holographic alien emblem and counted up from zero seconds to one minute. To continue the teaser, the doors opened and groups of players had to traverse the ship.
Moments later, the shutters on the windows closed, and a massive tube with glowing alien symbols slowly rose from within the pool. The lights on the cube faded out and the windows reopened, presenting a bleak sight: what appeared to be active bombs blinking red lights beneath the hovering platforms. At the same time, the backpacks of the players began to glow red and displayed a countdown timer with two minutes and 45 seconds remaining.
After players touched the cube, the second stage of the event revealed itself, revealing that the chamber was, in fact, an elevator platform that began traveling upwards, taking players and the cube to a large, open area.
An alien ship passed by, causing numerous additional platforms, including the one the gamers were sitting on, to emerge from the earth. Slowly, an adjacent cube began to glow purple. Another one followed suit, further behind and on the opposite side of the room. As the backpack counted down the final seconds, the entire room filled up with a purple glow.
When the timer reached zero, explosions erupted, sending gamers hurtling into the map alongside a swarm of enormous, incandescent cubes. As a result of a cinematic, gamers can see the alien ship bursting behind them. A massive chunk of debris flies towards the characters, seemingly hitting them, as the screen fades to black and displays the message: “To be continued… in season eight.”
Season eight of Fortnite Chapter Two begins tomorrow, September 13.
